I

grew up in the church. I attended church every Sunday, went to Sunday School and youth group every week, and attended many church events. I always felt the presence of God near to me growing up and prayed and read my Bible. However, I didn’t feel the overwhelming presence of God in my life until after a difficult breakup early in college. Even though breaking up with this person was exactly where God wanted me, it was still incredibly difficult after being with this person for 2+ years. It was at this time that I felt Proverbs 3:5 very strongly in my life: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” I remember during the toughest days I couldn’t lean on any of my understanding or knowledge of things. I could only lean on Him and His understanding. It was through that extremely essential time that I grew in the Lord and came to know something very important: What a Friend We Have in Jesus. Jesus cares for our hearts, our whole hearts, our broken hearts, and everything in between. You do not have to lean on yourself on your hardest days, nor do you have to mend your own heart. Jesus is our Friend, willing to carry that burden for us and with us. Would you ask him to be your Friend?
