Do you have any of these questions?

Who is Jesus Christ? And why do we use the present tense when we talk about Him?

Historians recorded that a man called Jesus lived on the earth more than two thousand years ago, in the time of Tiberius Caesar who ruled over the Roman empire then. Diverse writings recorded that Jesus went about doing good, teaching and healing people of all manner of disease. Jesus faced fierce opposition from vested interests. He was crucified and died when He was 33.

Again we know that when we mention BC or AD, we are talking of ‘Before Christ’ and ‘After His death’. How could one man who was neither powerful or rich in a worldly sense have impacted so many so much over so many years?

The Bible contains records by four authors that He rose again on the third day. One of them was a doctor who carefully investigated every detail. Jesus was seen by His disciples and about 500 others at different times during the next forty days. Then his disciples saw Him ascending to Heaven. And all this was predicted by Jesus earlier.

He lives!

And that’s why we don’t speak of Him in the past tense. With Jesus, seeing is believing. And believing is seeing. That’s what millions of people all over the world have experienced after growing into a personal relationship with Him.

Why should I become a follower of Jesus?

In Jesus, you will find a faithful and trustworthy friend who will guide you in every situation and aspect of your life. Only when we understand and believe that He sacrificed His life for the sin of the world and that He came back to life, we will want to commit our lives to Him. He assures us of His abiding presence at all times and of  a place in heaven when we die on earth.

Do I need to have a leader who will teach me to follow Jesus?

The Bible, which is a collection of 66 small booklets inspired by God, describes everything that there is to know about Jesus and His teachings. Throughout history, people's lives have been transformed by just reading this book. While it may be helpful sometimes to learn from other teachers, it is not necessary to have a leader to follow Jesus.

Why are some Christians cheaters and hypocrites?

In any group of people, whether it is teachers or lawyers, doctors or engineers, there are good people and there are cheaters and hypocrites. Christians as a group are no different. There are good Christians and others who do not represent Jesus Christ very well. Just like we don't give up on the practice of Medicine because there are bad doctors, it is not wise for us to discount Jesus Christ because there are bad Christians.

Why do Christians want to convert people?

No one can convert people. People become Christians by deciding in their hearts to follow and become disciples of Jesus Christ. Their lives are usually transformed and they get the meaning and purpose for living. If you had cancer and found a medicine for cancer, would you want to share it with your friends who are suffering from cancer? This is the same motivation for most genuine Christians. To share with others, the good news that has transformed their lives, especially with those who do not know Jesus.

Do Christian induce people to convert to their religion?

Jesus Christ never taught his disciples to induce people to convert to a religion. If someone is doing that, they are not true followers of Jesus.

Do I have to join a church to become a follower of Jesus Christ?

You do not have to join a church to become a Christian. Deciding in your heart to become a follower, learning more about Jesus from the bible and becoming more like Him is what is needed. Talking with Jesus, also called praying is needed. If you are a junior doctor, you learn from other experienced doctors. The same way, if you are a new follower of Jesus, it is good to get connected with other experienced followers of Jesus to learn from them.

What political parties or positions do you support?

Jesus was never concerned about who was in power but focused on serving all people and inviting them to a relationship with Him. As followers of Jesus, we are focused on following Him and His teaching. We submit to law and authority believing that they are established for the common good. He has power over all governments and leaders that are set in place.

Isn't Christianity a foreign religion?

When Jesus came to this world, He lived in the Middle East. When He left the earth to go to heaven, there were only a few hundred people who had experienced his transforming power and who had decided to follow Him disciples. People who did not believe that Jesus was God, said that the movement to follow Jesus would die soon after His death, if He was not God. However, in the last two thousand years, hundreds of millions of people all over the world have experienced the love of Jesus and have decided to become His followers. A personal relationship with Jesus is not constrained by geographic boundaries.

What does it mean to become a follower of Jesus?

This is a personal decision that comes from understanding who He is and what He alone can do. It’s a natural response when we experience His power and love at a personal level. A natural outcome is also a desire to learn from Him and to become more like Him.
